Justice for Renee Nicole Good and All Martyrs of State-Sanctioned Violence!

The Alice Stek for Lt. Governor Campaign joins the calls across the country to demand justice for Renee Nicole Good, whose life was violently ended at the hands of ICE agent Jonathan Ross. Justice for Renee requires the immediate arrest of Jonathan Ross and the abolition of ICE. The footage that has been released in the aftermath of the murder shows that a healthcare professional was on the scene, asking to assist Renee, yet the ICE agents who witnessed the murder denied him the ability to provide medical care. As any person of conscience would be, I was enraged watching this video. Myself a physician of forty years, I know that to deny a dying person medical care is criminal.

The day of Renee’s tragic murder also marked the one-year anniversary of the Los Angeles fires. For 21 days the fires burned through LA, killing 31 people and destroying 16,251 structures. The months leading up to the fires were the driest on record, yet city and state officials failed to invest in vegetation management and fuel reduction programs, and they failed to prepare citizens with evacuation protocols. The impacts of the fires lasted for months, and still to this day hundreds of survivors are not able to return home due to delayed and denied insurance claims and lack of accountability to timely and safe cleanup.

It is a clear failure of our capitalist system that we are unprepared to face climate change related disasters. This system that prioritizes the profits of a tiny few over the lives of the many is the same system that has allowed the Trump administration to wage its assault on working people and embolden ICE. From Minneapolis to Los Angeles, our struggles are interconnected. I am running for Lt. Governor of California with the Peace and Freedom Party because I’m fighting for justice for my patients, and beyond hospital walls and state borders, for all of us. We demand justice for wildfire survivors and justice for Renee. We will fight for all martyrs of state-sanctioned violence until justice prevails!
